Michelle Kartika Bahari, S.Sn., M.Mus.

michelle.jpgIndonesian-born pianist, Michelle Kartika Bahari, started her piano study eagerly since young age. Further study brought her to Universitas Pelita Harapan Conservatory of Music, where she did her undergraduate degree in Piano Performance as a full-tuition scholarship recipient. She received her Master of Music degree in piano performance at the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University. In the following year, she also continued her study in Performance Diploma in order to deepen her study both in solo and collaborative performances.
 

During her study at Jacobs School of Music, she was awarded the Artistic Excellence Award as well as Graduate Associate Instructor Fellowship, which gave her opportunity to serve as a piano instructor in secondary piano program for undergraduate level. In 2014, Michelle had her orchestral debut performance with Indiana University Student Orchestra performing Beethoven Piano Concerto No.1. Besides that, she also actively involved in solo and collaborative performances such as piano duo as well as collaboration with other instrumentalists.

 

Some of her other performance experiences and achievements include performing in solo and chamber recitals at Miami Piano Summer Festival in 2014, winner of Yamaha Music Scholarship Award in 2012, performing in Jakarta New Year Concert 2011 with Ananda Sukarlan, 2nd winner of Young Musician Challenge Award, and 1st winner of Yamaha National Piano Competition 2004. Besides performing, she also participated in several master classes with Manfred Aust, Evelyn Brancart, Giselle Brodsky, Paul Posnak, Tamas Ungar, Steven Spooner, Anna Kijanovska, Adam Gyorgy, Ling Yuan, and Masataka Goto. Her principal piano teachers include Reiko Shigeoka-Neriki (Jacobs School of Music), Dr. Johannes S. Nugroho (UPH), and So Kim Wie (Surabaya).
